Peter Dhu, Public Speaking Trainer and Keynote Speaker
Northern Mallee Leaders Feedback
“Public speaking can leave people sweating, breathless and willing to do anything to get out of it! Peter had a major hurdle to overcome which through hard work and determination he overcame. What you see now is a wonderful example of someone very real delivering a very real presentation – someone genuine speaking with passion and humility.”
James Lush, ABC Broadcaster
Peter Dhu is one of Western Australia’s ‘Local Champions’ with a powerful and emotive story to tell. Through his determination to overcome adversity, he has evolved from a chronic stutterer to a confident, motivational speaker with a message of dedication, determination, passion and ultimately success. The Perth Convention Bureau is proud to have supported Peter through his personal and professional journey to attract the World Congress for People Who Stutter through his Presidency of the National Speakeasy Association. As one of our inaugural scholarship winners, Peter is often invited by us to speak at awards ceremonies and industry breakfasts. The last time Peter spoke at a breakfast awards ceremony on our behalf was memorable. Within minutes of Peter starting to speak there was not a sound in the room. No clinking of cutlery and no hushed voices – just the silence of a room riveted by the speaker’s deeply personal and inspiring story.

You could hear a pin drop in the room when Peter speaks, all because the audience are glued to his speeches and he engages the crowd in a moving and touching way.
Having sourced Peter’s services as a presenter on 5 occasions to present to different industry sectors, he has been very effective in engaging with the audience and working with us on the outcomes we are looking for from the events.
Peter’s story is a motivational tale that really shows what can become of someone who is willing to brave it all and take the first step forward, and it demonstrates real character and spirit, and highlights how one man can make a difference to so many lives.
The fact that we have used his services on 5 occasions says it all. I highly recommend Peter as a motivational speaker and will certainly be using Peter again at our future events.

I have worked very closely with Peter Dhu over the past 20 years and have observed his excellent communication and public speaking skills many times over the course of our professional association.
I have witnessed Peter delivering motivational talks to undergraduate and postgraduate University students and international conference audiences. I have observed his excellent communication skills in media interviews for radio and television, and when addressing public information forums as well.
Peter speaks eloquently and with confidence to small and large groups alike.
The content of his presentations is always appropriate to these wide ranging audiences and he use humour and self disclosure appropriately and in an engaging fashion.
The feedback regarding Peter’s presentations is always outstanding and his commitment to informing the public and educating students is highly valued.
Peter has overcome a lifelong debilitating stutter and exudes confidence in all his oral presentations. Public speaking is demanding for all fluent speakers and Peter’s journey has made his current passion for presenting quite extraordinary.
Peter is an intelligent, entertaining and fascinating public speaker who has used his hard fought fluency to promote awareness in the community about a wide number of poignant public issues.

While Peter gives a lot of credit to the Bureau for the successful bid, the Bureau in turn considers him to be a champion ambassador for Western Australia.
It’s a relationship built on mutual admiration. Says the Bureau’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Jill Henry: “Working with Peter and his team has been a great inspiration to all of us in the Bureau.”
He is a most deserving winner of our scholarship program which aims to assist local executives with non-profit organisations to bid to bring their international conferences to Western Australia.

The sessions through the day flowed very logically. While it is confronting to get up and present to people you have not met before (mostly) I still thought it was done in a way without being too stressful or onerous. The presenter (Peter) was very empathic particularly since it was an area that he was unable to do himself in the past. This made it all the more encouraging for the participant to believe that presenting can be achieved by anyone. I was also particularly impressed that the presenter did not resort to power point for the presentation; he truly practices what he preaches.

Thank you Peter for such inspiring and worthwhile courses. I learnt a lot and left feeling more confident with presenting in front of other people. I am going to try and convince my employer to send me to more of your courses.
All the very best and again, thank you!!

Despite some apprehension at the beginning the format worked well. It was nice to see the improvement with each attempt. None of the content ever felt like filler or unnecessary. Everything was practical advice that was easily understood and able to be used in our circumstances. One of the most relevant and informative courses I have done.
Natalie Peterson, Communications Officer, TADNSW (Technical Aid to the Disabled)
“I think what worked was the “genuineness” of the speaker. You are not only an expert about what you are talking about but you exemplify everything that you were saying. Very inspirational and positive. The fact that it was a small group also added to the impact of the workshop.”
Joanna Elizalde, Physiotherapist, MS Australia – ACT/NSW/VIC.
I recently attended a “Feel the Fear” workshop and it far exceeded my expectations; Peter challenged and inspired me to change my way of thinking, gave me practical tools to combat critical self talk, and motivated me to take action after the workshop. He did all this while creating a comfortable, enjoyable learning environment and it was fantastic value for money. I am excited about attending more of Peter’s workshops and to have discovered his online resources. I highly recommend him as an engaging and inspiring facilitator/coach.
